Makers Empire is designed for grades K-8 learners and their teachers in mind.

There are multiple ways to setup your class.

In this article:
• Google Classroom (Recommended - all classes will automatically sync)

• Single Sign On (SSO): Google, Microsoft, Clever, Apple

• Creating a Makers Empire account with a CSV import
• Creating a Makers Empire account manually
• Student created accounts

GOOGLE CLASSROOM

The advantage to using Google Classroom is that all classes will automatically sync with the Makers Empire Teachers Dashboard. It means students and teachers can use existing login details, classes are already setup, and end of year rollover is easy!

1. Firstly make sure you have an existing Google Classroom account and your class lists are up to date.

2. Log in to the Makers Empire Teachers Dashboard and select "Sign in with Google
/ Google Classroom".

3. Your Google Classroom class lists and all the associated students will be automatically imported into the Makers Empire Teachers Dashboard.

4. Your students can then use their Google account to log in to Makers Empire 3D.

SINGLE SIGN ON (SSO) - Microsoft / Clever / Apple

Single Sign On (SSO) means you and your students have less usernames and passwords to remember.

It also means that you don't need to manually add students to your Makers Empire Teacher Dashboard - win!

1. To add students using an SSO option you first need a Home Class in your Teacher Dashboard for them.

You can create a new class, or use an existing class.

2. Make sure you know your Class Code.

3. Make sure your students know their SSO login details

4. The first time your students use the Makers Empire 3D design app, instruct them to click the big green Log In button and click the relevant button from the SSO options.

5. Tell the students to follow the prompts to create an avatar, choose a username and enter their Class Code. Once they enter the Class Code your students will appear in that class in your Teacher Dashboard.

ADD STUDENTS USING A .CSV FILE IMPORT

1. Log in to the Makers Empire Teachers Dashboard , click Class Management from the menu on the left and select Classes.

2. Select any class, and click the drop down menu (triangle icon).

3. Follow the instructions on the CSV Import page to download a .CSV file template, prepare your class lists and upload your .CSV file. You can use the .CSV import method to add a single student, or organise an entire school into classes.

*NOTE: .CSV files can be used to quickly manage class rollovers between academic years.

ADD STUDENTS MANUALLY

1. Log in to the Makers Empire Teachers Dashboard , click Class Management from the menu on the left and select Classes.

2. You can create a new class, or add students to an existing class.

3. Select the relevant class, then click the Add (+) button.

4. Follow the steps to give your student a username and password.

The other fields are not mandatory, but recommended:

  • You can enter an email address if your students use email, or select the tick box to use your own email (to retrieve passwords for example).

  • Entering a real name makes it a lot easier for teachers to search for students in the Teachers Dashboard. Real names are strictly private, only teachers can see real names.

  • Selecting a curriculum level assures your students will see the most relevant content in the Makers Empire 3D app.

I WANT MY STUDENTS TO CREATE THEIR OWN ACCOUNTS

Allowing students to create their own account can be a valuable lesson in digital literacy and empowers students to be responsible digital citizens. This option is recommended for students with sufficient literacy levels to follow basic step-by-step instructions. We don't recommend an exact age or grade level because we find teachers are the best judge of their own students' abilities.

To make a new account:

1. Open Makers Empire 3D and click the big New button.

2. Follow the prompts to create a new Avatar, and choose a username.

The next step will ask the student to secure their account using one of these options:

A. Choose a password

or

B. Sign in with Google

C. Sign in with Microsoft

D. Sign in with Clever

E. Sign in with Apple

A. CHOOSE A PASSWORD

1. The student will be prompted to enter a password.

2. We will try to automatically identify which school a new user is at using the IP of their device.

If we have correctly identified your school, click yes (tick). Go to step 3.a.

If we couldn't automatically identify your school don't worry, just click no (cross) and we'll link the new user with your school in a later step. Go to step 3.b.

3.a If we correctly identified your school, new users will then be asked to select their class from a dropdown list.

4.a New users will be asked to enter their real name and grade. Real names are strictly private and are only visible to teachers at your school and Makers Empire admins. Real names make it much easier for teachers to identify their students in the app and Teachers Dashboard.

3.b If we could not automatically identify your school New users are given the option to Scan a QR code (best for younger learners) or enter a Class Code.

Option 1. Display your class' QR code and scan it. To find your class' QR code go to Class Management in the Teachers Dashboard, select your class, click the drop down menu on the right (downwards pointing triangle icon), select Class QR Code and print/save.

Option 2. Type the Class Code. To find your Class Code, go to Class Management in the Teachers Dashboard and select your class. The Class Code is displayed in italics beneath your class' name.

4.b New users will be asked to enter their real name and grade. Real names are strictly private and are only visible to teachers at your school and Makers Empire admins. Real names make it much easier for teachers to identify their students in the app.

Success - your new account is all set up!

*NOTE: We know only too well how easy it is to forget a password. You can download a list of your students' usernames and passwords. We recommend giving your students a copy of their details to take home so they can keep creating and learning out of school hours too.
